Pitch Lenexa hosts World Cup watch party for USA vs. Paraguay match

LENEXA, Kan. — Fans enjoyed food, soccer themed activities and are ready to watch the USA vs. Paraguay World Cup match Friday at an event at Lenexa City Center.

The event featured 10 food trucks, three bars and four inflatables. Up to 5,000 fans were also able to enjoy taking part in human foosball, soccer darts, and a ninja warrior course. Prior to the match, a DJ led the crowd in dance contests and trivia.

Pitch Lenexa was formed by a group of interested businesses and non-profit organizations who came together to showcase exciting things about the Lenexa community. The name also serves as a nod to the proper name of soccer fields used during the World Cup.

“Lenexa has been hidden gem not only in Johnson County but also the region for a long time. We have a strong residential and employment base, so we just wanted to showcase that to the world that we aren’t as big as some of our counterparts, but we can punch above our weight in that respect. Putting on events like this are a way we can showcase that to the rest of the community in Kansas City and rest of world as we welcome visitors from all over,” Mike Nolan, Pitch Lenexa Vice President, said.

Pitch Lenexa will also host watch parties Thursday, June 25, and Saturday, July 11. Gates open at 5 p.m. each day. The event takes place at the corner of City Center Drive and Hampton Street.
